neocon 2009 | part one

I wanted to get this one out to y’all on friday but it turned out to be a long one. this is the first half…the other half will follow shortly…

this past summer, Laney was able to travel to NeoCon world’s trade fair 2009 at the merchandise mart, chicago. for those of you who don’t know, NeoCon is THE place to discover “thousands of innovative products and resources for corporate hospitality, health care, retail, government, institutional and residential interiors from more than 1,200 showrooms and exhibitors.” NeoCon is a plethora of fabrics to feel, new products to paw and glorious eye candy…designers act like kids in a candy store. last week, laney (busy new mom) found someone to drop off (thanks Keith) her big bag of goodies from the fair and I was delighted to sort through them. below are a few highlights.

  • Expando
I love cork. but I haven’t seen anything like these mosiacs and veneer flooring. beautifulious. they also carry a cork rubber flooring that is PVC free and can contribute to LEED certification. (above, clockwise top left: expanko cork flooring in thin mosaic, ardosia, strada, topazio and serra)

molo designs

  • molo design
super cool. and canadian. molo is a design studio in vancouver “dedicated to the research of materials and the exploration of space making.” they design portable modular products – seating, lighting, screens, dividers – out of 100% recyclable and 50% recycled kraft paper. it would make perfect soft seating and lighting for centre space. so. maybe your next student event? how about atmosphere 2010? (above, top to bottom: softwall + softblock modular system – LED lighting, softseating – fanning stool, softseating – long winding benches)

Crypton product

  • Crypton Super Fabrics
Crypton isn’t a new water-proof, stain-proof protected fabric. in fact, they been around for 15 years. so they know what they are doing and they do it well. but when you include a brochure in your 2009 collection called  “for the dogs and for dog lovers, too” filled with pet beds, pillows, fabric by the yard and tote bags with puppy patterns, how can I resist when I own the cutest puppy ever? AND you can shop online! seriously? seriously. of course, the super fabric comes in non-puppy patterns – ’cause kids and most adults can be messy too. (above, clockwise top: hound in the round bag in cork – front and back, doodle dog pillow in gipsy, bolster pet bed in melrose licorice, doodle dog apron in kermit, petalonia tote bad in agave-cocoa and rectangle pet bed in rotator pomelo)

stay tuned for part two.
